Landgoed Gulbergen is a recreational area with a scenic appearance It is located in the municipalities of Nuenen and Geldrop-Mierlo between the cities of Eindhoven and Helmond. The area is about 325 hectares and is situated on and around the former Gulbergen landfill. The Metropolitan Region Eindhoven (MRE) is the owner of the subsurface of this plan area. The MRE is a government body of 21 municipalities in Zuidoost-Brabant and has issued the leasehold of the land to Gulbergen B.V.

Gulbergen Estate will function as a green recreational buffer with a wide range of recreational facilities.

At the moment, we are working hard on updating the vision of Gulbergen. A vision that is challenging, that fits within the set conditions and that adds value to the area with a supra-regional image.

Originally the grounds of Gulbergen Estate belonged to the Waste Disposal Company (VAM). By train, manure and waste was brought here from the west of the country to be composted, after which it could be used in the exploitation of savage land.

In 1979, the Regional Waste Processing Company Southeast Brabant (RAZOB) was established, with the aim of responsible and controlled dumping of waste at the Gulbergen landfill. On a surface area of 49 hectares there was room for the dumping of 10 million tons of waste. Approximately 700,000 people live in the service area. Agreements are made with the surrounding municipalities and RAZOB committed to the realization of Gulbergen Estate into a sustainable recreational park.

With the takeover by Essent on 4 July 2003, this obligation was transferred to Essent Milieu (as of 1 January 2010: Attero).

For the construction and management of the estate, RAZOB founded Beheermaatschappij Gulbergen BV (now Gulbergen B.V). Gulbergen B.V. is a subsidiary of Attero.

For the realization of Gulbergen Estate the majority of the land has now been acquired.

The estate is approximately 325 hectares. Since 1990, part of the area has been in use by Golf de Gulbergen. Dierenrijk and an event area are also located on the Gulbergen estate.

There is also a mountain bike route through and across the site. This includes the ascent of what is called the "roof of Brabant". The top of the landfill is located 60 meters above sea level (40 meters above ground level) and offers a surprising view of the Eindhoven skyline, in clear weather even the provincial house of North Brabant and the stone mountains of the Kempens coal basins are visible.

It is intended that the area between Eindhoven and Helmond, Gulbergen estate, will serve as a green recreational buffer between the urban centers Eindhoven and Helmond, now and in the future.

Gulbergen is described as a recreational landscape park with a strong green articulation. Several recreational facilities for day recreation will get, or already have, a place on the estate.

Gulbergen Estate, a total of 325 hectares, is broadly bordered by:

  • The A270 Eindhoven-Helmond highway on the north side;
  • The building ribbon "Het Broek" and the municipal border of Geldrop-Mierlo with Helmond on the east side;
  • The Eindhovensch Canal on the south side;
  • De Collse Hoefdijk and the existing industrial area Eeneind on the west side.
